Privacy Policy
The short version: this site collects as little as possible. No passwords are stored (sign-in is OAuth only), no raw IP addresses are kept, there are no ads, no third-party trackers, and your data is never sold. The details follow.
The data controller for this website is Erik Frits, an independent software developer based in Austria.
For any privacy request (access, correction, deletion, questions), contact support@learnrevitapi.com.
Account data (only if you sign up). Sign-in works through Google or GitHub. From your chosen provider the site receives your name, email address, avatar image and provider account id (for GitHub also your GitHub username). No password ever reaches or is stored by this site.
Profile details you choose to add. Job title, skills, social media links and similar fields on your public profile. All optional.
Content you create. Comments, code snippets, bookmarks, and gamification data such as XP, levels and achievements.
Usage data. Page views are counted with a pseudonymous identifier: a truncated HMAC-SHA256 hash derived from your IP address and browser user agent. The raw IP address itself is not stored. Server error logs may temporarily contain technical request details.
Cookies and local storage. Only essential cookies are used: a session cookie (keeps you signed in) and a CSRF cookie (security). Your browser's local storage holds UI preferences such as theme, sidebar state and open tabs; that data stays on your device. There are no advertising cookies and no third-party trackers.
- Operating your account and the community features (comments, snippets, bookmarks, XP and leaderboard).
- Showing your public profile and your contributions to other visitors.
- Sending you in-app notifications (replies, mentions, achievements).
- Moderation, abuse prevention and site security.
- Aggregate, pseudonymous usage statistics to understand which pages are useful and improve the site.
Legal bases under the GDPR: performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b), providing the account and community features you signed up for), legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f), security and pseudonymous analytics), and consent (Art. 6(1)(a), the newsletter).
When you create an account, your basic account details (name, email, profile basics) are synced to the customer relationship management (CRM) tool used to manage user records for this site and the related LearnRevitAPI services.
The newsletter is sent through that tool only if you opted in during onboarding. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, or by contacting support@learnrevitapi.com.
Your data is never sold or shared with advertisers.
- Hosting: the site and its database run on Render, on servers located in Frankfurt, Germany (EU).
- Sign-in providers: authentication is handled by Google and GitHub under their own privacy policies. Your avatar is downloaded once from the provider and stored with your profile.
- CRM / email provider: may process data in the United States. Such transfers rely on appropriate safeguards, including EU standard contractual clauses.
- Account and profile data are kept for as long as your account exists.
- If you request deletion, your account and personal data are deleted or irreversibly anonymized within 30 days. Comments may be anonymized instead of removed so existing discussion threads stay readable.
- Pseudonymous usage statistics are kept in aggregate form.
- Backups are rotated automatically; residual copies disappear with the rotation cycle.
Under the GDPR you have the right to:
- access the personal data held about you;
- have inaccurate data corrected;
- have your data deleted ("right to be forgotten");
- restrict or object to processing;
- receive your data in a portable format;
- withdraw consent at any time (for example, the newsletter).
To exercise any of these rights, email support@learnrevitapi.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular the Austrian Data Protection Authority (Datenschutzbehörde) or the authority of your country of residence.
This site is not directed at children under 16 and does not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has created an account, contact support@learnrevitapi.com and the data will be removed.
This policy may be updated as the site evolves. The date at the top of the page always reflects the latest revision; significant changes will be announced on the site.
